Project Information
When the Hurd family started investigating heating and cooling options for their new two-story home in Elk River, Minnesota, they were intrigued by the ECONAR GeoSource™ Heat Pump display at the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show. Knowing the high cost of electric baseboard and the volatility of propane gas, they were very interested in geothermal. Today they own a GeoSource 2000 heat pump and are reaping the benefits of significant energy savings as shown in the chart below.

Utility Energy Data
The total kilowatt usage of heating and cooling the Hurd home in 2009 was 5740 kilowatt hours (KWH). Even with keeping the temperature at 71 degrees in the winter and about 80 degrees in the summer, their electric bills have been far less than the combined gas and electric consumption at their previous residence, which was about half the square footage.
