ECONAR® Energy Systems - Residential
Case Study
Hurd Residence - Elk River, Minnesota
In 1997, the Hurd family built a two-story home in Elk River,
MN. As they were investigating their heating and cooling options, they
were intrigued by the ECONAR GeoSource Heat Pump display at the Minneapolis
Home and Garden Show. Knowing the high cost of electric baseboard and
the volatility of propane gas, they were very interested in geothermal.
Now they own a GeoSource 2000 heat pump and are
reaping the benefits. They have been amazed with the savings they have
seen. They also were impressed with the absence of the added clutter they
would have had if they had gone with electric baseboard, plus the peace
of mind knowing there is no gas or exhaust from the furnace permeating
the house.
We are thrilled with our ECONAR GeoSource Heat
Pump, and would highly recommend it to anyone building a new home.

The total kilowatt usage of heating and cooling the Hurd
home in 1998 was 4,970 or about 415 KWH per month. In 1999 the total kilowatt
usage was 5,260 or about 438 KWH per month. Even with keeping the temperature
at 71° in the winter and around 80 in the summer, their electric
bills have been far less than their combined gas and electric consumption
at their previous residence, which was about half the size.
